Dachigam National Park is located in the Srinagar district of Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is situated in the Zabarwan Range of Western Himlayas.
In 1910, the area was initially established as a game reserve by the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir to protect the Kashmir stag (Hangul).
In 1951, it was declared a wildlife sanctuary.
In 1981, it was upgraded to the status of a national park.
Area: The park covers an area of approximately 141 square kilometers (54 square miles).
The park area is divided into:
Lower Dachigam (1700 to 3500 m.)
Upper Dachigam (2000 m to 4700 m.)
River: Dagwan River (Dagwan Nallah) flows through the park.
Flora: Coniferous Trees (deodar, pine and fir), Broadleaf Trees (Himalayan poplar, horse chestnut and walnut), Alpine Meadows (primroses, daisies, and orchids.), Rhododendrons etc.
Fauna: Kashmiri Stag (Hangul), Musk Deer, Snow Leopard, Himalayan Black Bear, Himalayan Brown Bear, Himalayan Gray Langurs, Himalayan Weasel, Yellow-throated Martens, Himalayan Fox, Monal Pheasant, Crimson Tragopan, Griffon Vulture, Kashmir Rock Agama , Ladakh Agama, Kashmir Rat Snake etc.
