National Parks in Goa

Mollem National Park is the only national park in Goa.

1. Mollem National Park

  • Mollem National Park is located in the South Goa district of Goa, India.
  • It is situated within Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • In, 1969, it was initially established as a wildlife sanctuary known as Mollem Game Sanctuary. Later it was renamed as Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary.
  • In 1978, the core area of the Bhagwan Mahaveer Wildlife Sanctuary was designated as a national park and renamed Mollem National Park.
  • Area: It cover an area of 107 square kilometres (41 sq mi). This forest area is part of the Western Ghats.
  • River: Dudhsagar River passes through the park.
  • Flora: West Coast tropical evergreen forests, West Coast semi-evergreen forests, and moist deciduous forests.
  • Fauna: Indian Bison (Gaur), Indian Leopard, Bengal Tiger, Sambar Deer, Barking Deer, Sloth Bear, Indian Giant Squirrel, Slender Loris, Greater Indian Hornbill, King Cobra, Cat Snake, Hump-nosed Pit Viper, Common Krait etc.
