Mizoram has 2 designated national parks.
1. Murlen National Park
- Murlen National Park is located in the Champhai district of Mizoram state in Northeast India.
- In 1989, it was established as a wildlife sanctuary.
- In 1991, Murlen Wildlife Sanctuary was upgraded to a national park.
- Area: The park covers an approximate area of 200 square kilometers (77 square miles).
- Hills: The park is situated in the Mizo Hills.
- River: Some of the rivers flow near the park include:
- Tiau River
- Tuivai River
- Champhai River
- Flora: Tropical and Subtropical Forests, Montane Forests, Orchids, Mosses and Ferns, Epiphytes etc.
- Fauna: Tiger, Leopard, Malayan Giant Squirrel, Himalayan Black Bear, Serow, Hoolock Gibbon, Goral , Sambar, Kaleej Pheasant, Bhutan Peacock Pheasant, Burmese Python, Indian Rock Python, Reticulated Python, King Cobra etc.
2. Phawngpui National Park (Phawngpui Blue Mountain National Park)
- Phawngpui National Park is located in the Lawngtlai district of Mizoram in northeastern India.
- It is also known as the Blue Mountain National Park or Phawngpui Blue Mountain National Park.
- The park is named after Phawngpui, the highest peak in Mizoram, which stands at an elevation of about 2,157 meters (7,077 feet).
- In 1992, it was declared a national park.
- Area: The park covers an area of approximately 50 square kilometers (19 square miles).
- Hills: The park is located in the Phawngpui Hills (Blue Mountain Hills). Phawngpui Hills situated in Mizo Hills (Lushai Hills).
- River: Kolodyne River flows along the eastern side of the park and forms the international border between Mizoram (India) and Myanmar.
- Flora: Sub-tropical Broadleaf Forests (oak, chestnut, magnolia), Tropical Evergreen Forests, Bamboo, Orchids, Grasslands etc.
- Fauna: Tiger. Clouded Leopard , Himalayan Black Bear, Serow, Ghoral , Sambar , Hoolock Gibbon, Stump-tailed Macaque , Slow Loris, Mrs. Hume’s Pheasant, Kaleej Pheasant, White Cheeked Partriged etc.
