National Parks in Telangana

There are 3 national park in Telangana.

1. Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park

  • Kasu Brahmananda Reddy National Park is located in the Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad, the capital city of Telangana state in India.
  • It is also known as KBR National Park.
  • The park was named after Kasu Brahmananda Reddy, who served as the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh (now divided into Telangana and Andhra Pradesh) from 1964 to 1971.
  • In 1994, it was established as a national park.
  • In 1998, the park was officially designated as a national park by the Government of India.
  • Area: Park covers an area of approximately 390 acres ( 1.58 square kilometers).
  • Hills: Park is located in the Jubilee Hills area of Hyderabad.
  • River: The park itself doesn’t have a river flowing through it. It is situated near the Musi River.
  • Flora: 600 species of plants, several insectivorous plants (Drosera flycatcher plant) etc.
  • Fauna: Spotted Deer, Indian Hare, Indian Palm Squirrel, Pangolin, Small Indian Civet, Indian Roller, Black Drongo, Indian cobra, Monitor Lizard, Indian Garden Lizard etc.

2. Mrugavani National Park

  • Mrugavani National Park is located in the Ranga Reddy District of Telangana, India.
  • In 1994, Mrugavani National Park was established.
  • Area: Park covers an area of approximately 3.6 square kilometers (1.4 sq mi) or 1211 acres.
  • Flora: Teak, Bamboo, Neem, Sandalwood, Banyan, Tamarind etc.
  • Fauna: Spotted Deers,, Sambar, Indian Hare, Wild Boar, Flower Pecker, Lapwings, Russell’s Viper, Monitor Lizard, Python, King Cobra etc.

3. Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park

  • The Mahavir Harina Vanasthali National Park is located at Vanasthalipuram in Hyderabad, Telangana.
  • It is named after Mahavir, the 24th Jain Tirthankara, and “Harina” refers to deer in Sanskrit.
  • The national park was established with the aim of protecting the endangered blackbuck species, which is the state animal of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
  • In 1975, the government of Andhra Pradesh declared the area as a wildlife sanctuary.
  • In 1994, the sanctuary was upgraded to the status of a national park.
  • Area: Park covers an area of approximately 14.59 square kilometers (5.633 square miles).
  • Flora: Sandalwood, rosewood, palas, amalthas, albizzias, acacias, teak,Grasses, Shrubs and Bushes etc.
  • Fauna: Blackbucks , Porcupines, Indian Hare, Indian Gray Mongoose, Wild Boar, Short-toed Eagles, Indian Pond Herons, Water Monitors etc.
